Guangdong's high-speed railway network exceeds 3,000km, ranking first in China

By the end of 2023, China launched 5 high-speed railway lines in just two days! This includes the Shantou South to Shanwei section of the Shantou to Shanwei high-speed railway.

The opening of Shantou South to Shanwei section not only adds a new passenger transport artery to the east of Guangdong, but also propels Guangdong to become the first province in China with a high-speed railway mileage exceeding 3,000 kilometers.

Five High-Speed rails launched within 2 days

From December 26 to 27, 2023, the Chinese Railway Department successively launched 5 high-speed railways within two days, as follows:

Chengdu to Zigong to Yibin high-speed railway

Longyan to Wuping section of Longyan to Longchuan high-speed railway

Shantou South to Shanwei section of Shantou to Shanwei high-speed railway

Huangshan to Nanchang section of Hangzhou to Nanchang high-speed railway

Fangchenggang to Dongxing Railway

Huangshan to Nanchang section of Hangzhou-Nanchang high-speed railway starts operation, marking the full operation of the Hangzhou-Nanchang high-speed railway.

The Hangzhou-Nanchang high-speed railway links a number of national famous tourist attractions such as Hangzhou West Lake, Qiandao Lake, Huangshan, Poyang Lake, Jingdezhen, Tengwang Pavilion, etc., with a total of 9 national 5A level and more than 70 national 4A level tourist scenic spots along the line. It is known as the "World-Class Golden Tourist Line".

The Fangchenggang to Dongxing Railway starts from Dongxing City Station located on the Sino-Vietnamese border, which is the first high-speed train directly reaching the Sino-Vietnamese border city.

As for the Shantou-Shanwei high-speed railway, the section opened this time is from Shantou South to Shanwei. Among them, the Shanwei Station can transfer to the Guangshan high-speed railway to Guangzhou East. After the Shantou to Shanwei high-speed railway is opened, the fastest journey from Guangzhou East to Shantou South can be reduced to about 2 hours.

Shantou to Shantou South section of Shantou-Shanwei high-speed railway, including the Shantou Bay Undersea Tunnel, is still under construction. The Shantou Bay Undersea Tunnel is the world's first single-bore double-line high-speed railway undersea tunnel with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

Guangdong's high-speed railway network exceeds 3,000 km

Once Shantou-Shanwei high-speed railway is operational, Shantou Metropolitan Area is fully integrated into the Greater Bay Area's "one-hour economic circle".

Meanwhile, the Shantou-Shanwei high-speed railway has propelled Guangdong to become the nation's first province where the mileage of high-speed railway exceeds 3,000 kilometers.

By the end of 2022, the operating mileage of high-speed railways conforming to the standard of 200 kilometers per hour or more in Guangdong had reached 2,788 kilometers.

In 2023, Guangdong newly opened two high-speed railways, one is Guangzhou-Shanwei high-speed railway that opened in September (total length is 200 kilometers), and the recently opened Shantou to Shantou South section of Shantou-Shanwei high-speed railway (total length is 142 kilometers).

Therefore, it can be calculated that the total operating mileage of high-speed railway in Guangdong is 3,130 kilometers. Mainland media pointed out that Guangdong took the lead nationwide by surpassing 3,000 kilometers in high-speed railway mileage, outpacing Shandong, currently ranked second with a total operational mileage of 2,807 kilometers, by a significant margin of 323 kilometers.

Jiangxi achieves "connecting every city with high-speed railway of 350 km/h"

The opening of the Shantou-Shanwei high-speed railway has brought the eastern Guangdong region into the "350 km/h high-speed railway era".

Although Guangdong's goal is to achieve "connecting every city with high-speed railway of 350 km/h" based on "connecting every city with high-speed railway", the first province to achieve the goal is Jiangxi.

After Huangshan to Nanchang section of Hangzhou-Nanchang high-speed railway is operational, it ends the situation that four counties and one city in Jingdezhen do not have a high-speed railway at a speed of 350 km/h, and all 11 prefecture-level cities in Jiangxi have a high-speed railway passing through at a speed of 350 km/h.

As for the 21 prefecture-level cities in Guangdong to enter the "350 km/h high-speed railway era", it has to wait for the opening of the  Meizhou-Longchuan high-speed railway, Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway, Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Macao high-speed railway, Zhuhai-Zhaoqing high-speed railway, and Zhangzhou-Shantou high-speed railway.
