Renmin University of China officially opened

On 3 October 1950, Renmin University of China (RUC), the first new-style formal university founded by the Communist Party of China (CPC), officially opened.

The history of Renmin University of China can be traced back to Shaanbei Public School in 1937, and later North China Union University, North University, and North China University.

After the founding of New China, the Central People's Government passed a resolution that Renmin University of China would be formed by a merger on the basis of North China University, be directly under the Ministry of Education, and be jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipality.

Renmin University of China is one of China's first "Project 985" and "Project 211" key construction universities. In 2017, it was also among the first to be selected for the national "World-Class Universities and First-Class Disciplines" construction list.
