First "Hua Luogeng Mathematics Award"

On November 4, 1992, the award ceremony of the first "Hua Luogeng Mathematics Award" held.

The establishment of the Hua Luogeng Mathematics Award is to commemorate Hua Luogeng (華羅庚), one of the greatest modern Chinese mathematicians who made outstanding contributions to pure and applied mathematics, and to encourage mathematicians who are dedicated to the development of mathematics in China.

The award was jointly established by the Chinese Mathematical Society and Hunan Education Press, with the former responsible for evaluation and awarding, and the latter providing funding.

The first recipients were Professor Chen Jingrun (陳景潤) and Professor Lu Qikeng (陸啟鏗) from the Institute of Mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Hua Luogeng Mathematics Award was originally awarded to no more than two people per session, and was selected every two to three years.

However, after the change in the system, it could to be awarded annually to no more than one person per session, and the most recent award is the 18th in 2024, with a prize money of CNY 200,000.
