China's first 5G metro station opened

On 5 January 2019, China's first 5G metro station officially opened at Taipingyuan Station (太平園站) on Line 10 of the Chengdu Metro in Sichuan Province.

High-speed Wi-Fi signals, converted from Sichuan Mobile's 5G network, cover Taipingyuan Station, making it the first metro station in the country to be covered by a 5G signal, and also an important site for Sichuan Mobile to test the 5G indoor distribution system.

The 5G base station launched this time is the country's first 5G digital indoor distribution system network based on the 2.6GHz frequency band.

Prior to this, 5G base stations were mainly concentrated outdoors, used to broaden the scope of the 5G network. The indoor distribution system is designed to solve the problem of deep coverage for the 5G network, thereby enabling the 5G network signal to cover every indoor corner.

5G refers to the 5th-generation mobile communication technology. The previous four generations, 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G, began around the 1980s, evolving one level every 10 years. 5G network speeds can reach 9 to 20 times that of 4G, with the fastest download speed reaching 1G/s.
