As we step into June, it's high time for lotus viewing. What are the best lotus spots in Shenzhen, and what attractions are there in the surrounding areas? Let’s check it for now.
Luohu: Honghu Park
If you ask Shenzhen residents where to go for lotus viewing, they will definitely answer: Honghu Park.
Located in the Luohu district of Shenzhen, Honghu Park is the first lake park in Shenzhen themed around lotus flowers and featuring water activities.
The park is extensively planted with lotuses and water lilies, covering an area of more than 100 acres, with over 100 varieties, making it one of the most important lotus landscape planting bases in South China.
Every summer since 1988, Honghu Park has held a large-scale lotus exhibition, which has a history of over 30 years. It is considered the pinnacle of lotus viewing in Shenzhen and a must-see exhibition for lotus enthusiasts.
The 2025 lotus exhibition will be held from June 12 to July 6.
"Double-headed lotus" is a flower not to be missed: two flowers bloom on one stem, only occurring naturally, not controlled artificially, nor possessing hereditary traits, making it especially rare and precious.
In 2025, at least six double-headed lotuses were discovered in Honghu Park so far.
Another must-see spot is Pinghe Garden (品荷園), which covers an area of 12,000 square meters and serves as a small world of lotus flowers where various rare breeds, both double-petal and single-petal, can be seen in abundance.
Additionally, morning pavilion and "Luo Benben" are also worth a visit.
After the exhibition, if time allows, you are suggested to visit Shun'gong Stationery & Toy Wholesale Market, which is one of Shenzhen's major wholesale markets, VCity Shopping Mall, KKTime and Walmart Supermarket, where you can have fun too.
Longhua: Guanlan Printmaking Village
Located in the Niuhu community of Guanlan Street, Longhua District, Shenzhen's Guanlan Printmaking Village is blooming of pink lotuses in June.
Shenzhen's Guanlan Printmaking Village (觀瀾版畫村) is one of the 10 major Hakka ancient villages in Shenzhen.
It is a famous scenic spot that has long been attracting numerous tourists, special features including nearly 300 years of history with Hakka architectural clusters, traditional queue houses, ponds, ancient wells, ancestral halls, and diaolou building, showcasing unique Hakka charm.
Inside the village, there are two major lotus ponds; one is near the diaolou building, where the lotus and ancient architecture complement each other.
The Wooden walkways there allow visitors to see the lotus flowers up close.
The other is a lotus field which is much bigger that the lotus pond, with over ten thousand blooming lotuses. You can see an endless horizon of lotus flowers sea.
Besides viewing flowers, visitors can also pay to pick lotuses and lotus pods, roughly priced at 10 yuan for three stalks.
As it is a lotus field, there is no wooden walkway, but there are small pathways on the field, allowing visitors to enter into the field and experience the charming of lotus.
After visiting Guanlan Print Village, it is also recommended to explore the nearby Aohu Art Village (鰲湖藝術村) to feel the unique artistic atmosphere.
Additionally, the nearby Guanlan River Wetland Park and Guanlan Ancient Market will add even more variety to your trip.
Bao'an: Wanjing Tower
To see panoramic view of lotus flowers on an ancient city wall, Wanjing Tower is a place worth visiting.
Located in Shajing, Bao'an, Wanjing Tower is an ancient-style architectural complex that combines Ming Dynasty city walls with the style of the Classical Gardens of Suzhou.
It is known as Shenzhen's "Little Suzhou and Hangzhou."
The lotus pond is right beneath the old tower, with a statue of Guanyin beside it. Standing on the tower, the classical garden scenery and blooming lotus flowers are all in sight.
Blue skies, white clouds, garden landscapes, lotus flowers on the water, and koi fish in the water reflect each other beautifully, forming a stunning classical ink painting.
It can be said to be a rare spot in a modern city for enjoying lotus flowers.
Near the Wanjing Tower, there are also Qingping Ancient Market (清平古墟) and Shajing Citizen Square, where you can enjoy flowers, shop, and relax in one day.
