Shenzhen's K11 ECOAST waterfront cultural district is the first flagship project in mainland China by Hong Kong's K11 Group.
With a total construction area of 228,000 square meters – nearly double the scale of Hong Kong's K11 Musea – it has garnered significant attention since its opening on April 28. Almost everyone marvels at its grand architecture.
So what are the must-see architectural highlights at K11 ECOAST?
K11 ECOAST Art and Cultural District is located in Prince Bay, Nanshan District, Shenzhen.
The overall design resembles a giant ship docked at the harbor, including the Art Mall, multifunctional art spaces, new-generation office spaces K11 ATELIER, and a landscaped waterfront promenade, integrating art, humanistic and natural concepts to create a world-class coastal cultural and art district.
The overall architectural layout of K11 mainly consists of the South Pavilion, North Pavilion, multifunctional cultural space K11 HACC, and the waterfront promenade, each with unique features.
The South Pavilion and North Pavilion both belong to the cultural retail K11 ECOAST, but their styles are entirely different.
North Pavilion: geometric oasis
The North Pavilion is 10 stories high, designed with the concept of "Art Ark on the Bay," resembling a giant ship sparkling waves under the sunlight.
The exterior of the pavilion is connected to the coastal landscape of the sea and is visually merging with nature.
The interior features a primary tone of natural wood and a large number of green plants, with a glass canopy allowing plenty of natural light. The atrium design is stunning and a must-visit photo spot.
Under the glass canopy of the atrium, a giant petal-shaped chandelier hangs, complemented by dangling magnolia flower lamps. It is a must-see spot for visitors.
Looking up from below, the layered design resembles staggered rocks in a canyon, with green plants and rocks making one feel like being in a forest.
The escalators on each floor together are designed like a Chinese-styled fan "waving" in the atrium.
Whenever it is in the sunlight during the day or with under the effect of lights at night, the moving escalators are also filling with artistic charm.
You can capture this scene just by standing on the highest floor and it is one of the popular spots in K11 ECOAST.
The sky garden on the fifth floor boasts an unbeatable sea view and a panoramic view. It is a nice observation platform for sure.
South Pavilion: eye-dazzling spectrum of colours
Compared with the North Building, the South Building is a designed with a lot of trendy and fashionable elements.
The South Building showcases a vibrant style with bright colours, including brilliant yellow and deep ocean blue. Among them, the deep blue colour features a theme of cosmic planets and includes a floating observation platform for photo-taking.
The "Pearl of the Sea" installation on the top floor of the South Building is another place you must not miss. It is a "floating garden" made of golden steel, filled with plants and walkways. The top floor also features an equestrian club where you can take photos with horses!
Notably, the South Building has a series of indoor amusement parks, including meland, Star Legend arcade, flight simulation experience hall, Shenzhen's first NBA HOOP PARK basketball park, and the National Geographic Classic Image Exhibition.
Cultural Space: monochrome canvas for urban aesthetes
Outside the North Building stands a white building, it is the K11 HACC multifunctional cultural space. It builds with geometric lines and soft beige stone material located by the seaside.
It has three floors, and now there are three art exhibitions currently taking place. It is a place where you can see great exhibitions from all round the world.
Designed by a team including OMA, David Chipperfield Architects, and Sou Fujimoto, The K11 ECOAST has been honored with the “Mixed-Use Development of the Year-China” award at the Real Estate Asia Awards 2024 for its breakthrough innovations in sustainable development, cultural arts promotion, and integration of culture and commerce.
Although its opening not less than two months and many shops and restaurants are still preparing, with beautiful architecture and stunning seaside scenery, it is definitely a new hotspot that have worth exploring.
