Taobao, China’s leading online shopping platform, has opened its first physical store in Hong Kong, named Papahome which located at Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The store offers a unique shopping experience that blends online convenience with offline exploration.
Papahome covers an area of 25,000 square feet and is divided into 7 main zones, gathering over 100 quality Taobao merchants and more than 10,000 products.
Customers can touch and feel the physical items in the store but can place orders on the Taobao shopping platform only.

The store setting is similar to IKEA, displaying various furniture such as bookshelves, chairs, and sofas. Customers are allowed to touch and try out these items.
The store is divided into 7 main zones, including living and dining room area, bedroom area, children and pet area, kitchen area, outdoor space area, office solutions area, and renovation materials area.
On top of these, there are dedicated services for full house renovation customization and AI-powered kitchen cabinets, providing one-stop service for customers through smart methods.
Are the products in the Taobao furniture physical store cheaper than those on the Taobao website?
According to spokesman of Papahome, the products displayed in the store are designed to cater to the tastes and needs of Hong Kong consumers, providing services of high quality, the most cost-effective, and the best design.
For Instance, there is a fashionable Italian fabric sofa displayed at the entrance of the Taobao furniture store, which meets Hong Kong people preference in terms of materials, design, and size.
The price is above a thousand Hong Kong dollars, which is considered acceptable.
When people want to place order, they need to do it by scanning the QR code with the price displayed on the item.
When scanning the QR code, the customer will be directed to the Taobao (world.taobao.com) page.
After logging in, the customer can see the details and discounts of the relevant products and then place an order by following the instruction.
All products must be ordered through the Taobao website.
Collaborating with Cainiao to offer home delivery service
One-stop transportation is another highlight of Papahome.
Papahome collaborates with Cainiao to provide discounted consolidated shipping services. Customers who place orders through the QR code in the physical store can enjoy discounts.
Papahome spokesman said "90% of Papahome's shipping costs are less than 600 yuan, and half are less than 100 RMB."
Additionally, the products can be delivered directly to home, so customers don't have to worry about multiple charges when handling consolidated shipping.
Exclusive Service available for On-Site Installation
In terms of installation, Papahome also provides a platform for customers to choose. When products being delivered to home, people can click into "Taobao Furniture" on a Papabo repair app, and upload photos of the products.
Then, the website will provide three quotes for the customers to choose from. Once selected, the skilled workers of the successful quotation will come to customers' place for the service.
After completion, customers can rate the installation service in the app, just like what will do after hiring an Uber taxi.
AI-powered design for kitchen cabinets and wardrobes
Technology is another highlight of Papahome.
The store offers a service called "AI-powered Cabinet," which can tailor-made kitchen countertops and wardrobes based on an individual's height, making cooking in the kitchen and storage in the wardrobe more practical and convenient.
Stand in the designated position for the "AI-powered Cabinet", and let AI do a full body scan.
In just a few seconds, the screen will generate the optimal height for the kitchen countertop and the best settings for the wardrobe compartments based on the body's various heights.
After choosing colour options, AI will generate the kitchen cabinets design with the specific colour, waiting for the final approval of the order.
PapaHome also offers customised ‘Whole House Customisation’ service, where PapaHome has partnered with Bufan Space in the Mainland to create interior designs for customers.
Customers can provide information such as floor plan and dimensions of their flats, and then someone will provide one-stop services such as design and customisation using computers.
