Hong Kong teacher breaks new record for fastest female ascent of Mount Everest

On May 23, 2012, former Hong Kong teacher Ada Tsang(曾燕紅) set a new world record for the fastest female ascent of Mount Everest.

Ada left the Everest Base Camp at 1:20 PM local time on May 22 and reached the summit at 3:10 PM the next day.

She reached Everest from Everest Base Camp in 25 hours and 50 minutes, breaking the previous record of 39 hours and 6 minutes set by Nepali climber Phunjo Jhangmu Lama in 2017 by more than 12 hours.

Upon safely returning to the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, Ada said in an interview that she felt relieved and happy, and her journey wasn't about breaking the record but challenging herself.

Ada was once a teacher of life education and general studies at the Federation of Alumni Associations of the Chinese University of Hong Kong's Chen Zhenxia Middle School.

She said her dream of climbing Everest stemmed from a promise to her students, "I must do what I promise my students because I fear letting them down."
